"Soroptimist" is derived from two Latin words, "soror" meaning sister and "optima" meaning "best". It stands for "women at their best helping others to be their best".

Soroptimist International is a worldwide service organisation for women. It is a global voice for women working through Awareness, Advocacy and Action and committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong peaceful communities worldwide.

As part of the part of the Federation of the South West Pacific, the Soroptimist International Club of Damansara (SID), established in 1993, is one of 3,000 clubs across 123 countries and territories with more than 82,000 members globally.

Soroptimists inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls through a global network of members and international partnerships.
